September 26, 2010, we held our second Ride-In Bike Show of the year. Considering it was a cool overcast day, we had a good turnout. There were quite a few winners in several classes. Pictured to the right is Mike Masellas with his 1949 Harley which won for Best in Show. He earned himself a trophy along with $250. Special recognition also goes to Glen Nason for his 2008 APC Wildcard for Best Chrome; Marc McInnis for 2001 Yamaha V-Star for Best Paint; and Dave Haskell for his 2007 HD Heritage Softail for Best Theme. People's Choice award was presented to Jamal Dawoudi for his 2004 Ducati Supersport, a tribute to his brother. All winners received trophies and cash! Thanks for participating! Special thanks to Dave George & Steve Roscia for volunteering (again!)
We celebrated the International Holiday "Talk Like a Pirate Day!" with a costume contest and swashbucklin games and Captain Morgan specialty drinks. Congratulations to Mike Beyea and Lori Smith for best pirate and wench costumes. Thanks to Karaokie Annie for hosting our games! We had a lot of laughs and look forward to playing pirates & wenches again next year, so mark your calendar for September 19, 2011!
Steve, Gerbais, Gregg, Dave & Neal
September 11, 2010, Gregg Martinez, Dave George and Steve Roscia led 162 motorcyclists on the Annual 9th Haddock 100 Run to support Waban Projects. Waban is a non-profit corporation organized to develop and operate programs which promote the general welfare and education of children and adults with developmental or other disabilities. Executive Director Neal Meltzer and Gerbais attended the event on behalf of Waban. As the run drove through Sanford, where Waban Projects is located, several community members cheered and waved them on in support. Special thanks to the Sanford and Kennebunk Police Departments who helped with traffic.
August 29, 2010, we had our first "BE LIKE BW DAY," where patrons and friends ranging from ages 10 to 80 dressed up like Bentley, even a few girls! Bentley's daughter, Lisa, hosted the event and shared a few stories about her dad. Our judges picked Ray as winner who even included a look a like tattoo of Bentley's panhead on his arm. Bentley snuck in behind the contestants dressed in a SUIT! It even surprised his daughter! We shared lots of laughter and Bentley hung out for an autograph session. Special thanks to Martha Jones who sold 50/50 raffle tickets to raise money for a local nine year old boy, Isaac Turner, and his family.
Phil, Annie, Artimus & Bob
The evening of August 28, 2010, Southern Rock's Finest rocked the house with special thanks to Bruce Garrigan and his friend Bruce Rossboro. We were fortunate to have ARTIMUS PYLE former DRUMMER for LYNYRD SKYNYRD, PHIL STOKES from PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE, JIMMY SEXTON from GHOST RIDERS & JOHN MARTIN from SOUTHERN DRIVE BAND. It was a huge night for us as patrons felt like they were at a concert and the musicians hung out signing autographs. Our own local favorites, Bob Cangello and Karaoke Annie, had the opportunity to play with Southern Rock's Finest.
Cody & His mother, Jess
On August 28, 2010, nearly 200 bikes showed up in support of the Have a Heart Annual Help the Family Run for 9 year old Cody Buzzell who is fighting brain cancer. Special thanks to not only our riders and passengers but to Bruce Garrigan and his friend Bruce Rossboro, Big Moose Harley Davidson, Boot Hill Saloon, Chicks Cottage, Iron Horse Log Trucking, LaDawn Quarter Horses5 Olde Nugget, Babs Cleaning Service, the Southern Rock Musicians, and Shawn Moody who is running for Maine's next Governor. Cody is now in heaven.
On July 31, 2010, we celebrated the life of musician and close friend, JAY RUBERO. We named the day "RUBERO-PALOOZA". Thanks again to Joe Bouchard (for endless recording and production) without whom "The First Ever Bentley's Saloon Open Mic Night CD - Volume 1 in Memory of Jay Rubero would never have been made. It is on sale for $10 at the Bentley's Saloon Gift Shop & is available at OMN every Wednesday 7 to 11 pm. All proceeds benefit the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk, Maine in Jay's name.
August 13, 2010, nearly 200 bikes thankfully escorted by Lee police took the night ride over to Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire to benefit the Petty's Victory Junction Gang Camp, a camp initiated by NASCAR's Petty family to enrich the lives of children with serious illnesses. Lee USA Speedway let our ride take a few laps around the track as the crowd loudly cheered us on. It was an awesome night, and we raised a few thousand dollars for the kids. Lee USA Speedway also set us up with a hospitality tent and provided pit passes to watch the ISMA Super Modified Classic Race, which was won by Bentley's teammate Chris Perley.
Tom Noble, Bentley & Robert Noble
The second annual memorial ride in honor of Herb Noble to benefit the Barbara Bush's Children Hospital was held on July 24, 2010. Herb's family demonstrates true compassion and their endless efforts to raise money were evident as there was tremendous support from the community. There were rain clouds, but 65 bikers showed up and the sun shined upon us, a sense of Herb's spirit on the ride. Also along the ride with Herb's family on the half bus was the spirit of Specialist Alan Hamlyn who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. (check out the pics to see how Alan attended the ride). On behalf of the Barbara Bush's Children Hospital, guest speakers Diane Freschette and Lisa Irish gave heartfelt speeches about their children whose lives were saved at the hospital. There was a surprise visit from Channel 8 who interviewed Herb's sons, Bob & Tom. Generous donations were also made at an auction at the saloon following the ride.
July 14, 2010, we hosted our first Business After Hours with the Kennebunk - Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce. We certainly made a lot of new friends as the attendance was outstanding. Thank you Jim Fitzgerald and Anthony Ambrose and all Chamber Members for coming to the Saloon. We definitely look forward to hosting another event and seeing you all again.
We had "Christmas in July" and teamed up with Butch Lizotte with the United Bikers of Maine to benefit Caring Unlimited and the York County Shelter. Motorcyclists came from the Buxton Tavern and Rochester Harley presenting gifts under a Christmas tree for children. We even had Santa Claus - can you guess who dressed up as Santa? It wasn't Bentley. Thanks to everyone who had the spirit!
July 10, 2010, we were honored to be a part of the Wounded Heroes ride which started at the Maine Veterans Home with nearly 500 motorcycles and tremendous sponsorship support. Pam Payeur who organized this ride is a true hero herself. Her passion and dedication is amazing. The Wounded Heroes Program grew out of Pam's efforts when she watched her son, who had come home after being wounded, struggle to earn the benefits he had earned as a soldier.
" One of the biggest challenges our wounded troops face is the transition from military to civilian life after being injured in the line of duty. This is difficult for anyone leaving the service, but our wounded heroes often face additional physical and emotional challenges. Navigating the multiple bureaucracies responsible for their needs can be tremendously frustrating and far too often our heroes fall through the cracks. They also often need financial assistance to bridge the gap and we help them as they get their affairs in order." -- www.warriorlegacyfoundation.org
We were also honored with the presence of Howe & Howe Technologies who design and build military defense equipment. Watch their show on the Discovery Channel Tuesdays at 10:00 pm. Maybe we'll be on! For more information, visit www.howeandhowetechnologies.com
Chris Collins in side car
On June 26, the 2nd Annual Benefit Ride for NTAF Northeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund in Honor of Chris Collins departed from the Saloon. There were 80 motorcycles and nearly $4,000 was raised. Chris Collins has many friends and we continue to wish him the best.
Memorial Weekend 2010 we had a well-attended ride-in bike show. Tony Aceto placed Best In Show for his 2009 Northeast Chop Shop Chopper. The photo to the left is Bentley, Tony, and the bike builder, Jason. Along with the trophy, Tony won $250.

May 22, 2010, the saloon hosted a scenic ride along the coast which was sponsored by Masons Lodge #22 to benefit the Masonic Youth Charities for the Maine Chip (child identification program) and for scholarships.
Nearly 100 bikes showed up for the run and more than $4,000 was raised by the generous bikers and other donors.
May 1, 2010, Bentley's Saloon hosted their first Annual Kentucky Derby party with the help of Karaoke Annie. Several ladies really played the part and came dressed with their big fancy hats and dresses, and the judges picked Martha Jones for the most original hat. She taped dandelions on a motorcycle helmet! She said it took her two hours to create it. After a few mint juleps, we had our own derby in the backyard. Our derby was on horse sticks!! Nine contenders galloped, if we can call it that, with the horse sticks between their legs, blew up a balloon, sat in a chair to pop the balloon and returned to the finish line. The top 3 winners received awards and the other contestants were given prizes. One of the contenders, Janice, celebrated her birthday! There were great laughs, and we had requests to do it again next year!
Bentley Warren, Patriot Riders Fred Hardy & Frank Peluso
April 25, 2010, we were honored to be involved with the 3rd Annual 2010 Spring Ride for the Troops presented by the Patriot Riders of New England and hosted by VFW Post 6977 in York, Maine where supporters and bikers gathered for a delicious breakfast. The ride departed with hundreds of motorcycles carrying American Flags on their bikes. It was generously escorted by several police & fire depts. - York, South & North Berwick, Sanford, Kennebunk, Old Orchard Beach, Windham and South Portland areas. The ride ended at the saloon where ceremonies were joined with several speakers - Shelley Pellitier, Commander AMVETS Post #1; Leslie Taylor; the oldest member from AMVETS; Nancy Lee Kelly, Gold Star Mother; Vickey LaBonte, President of Blue Star Mothers; National Anthem Singer, Carlyn Maheau; and veteran Robert Baker, who shared his personal experiences in Iraq and expressed how much a care package means to a solider - even the little things such as Beef Jerky and Crystal Drink packets. The ceremony was beyond words and as Bentley said it made you teary eyed.
**We are proud to say the ride raised over $4,000 to send care packages to the soldiers. VFW Post 6977 has raised nearly THREE MILLION DOLLARS since 2001 to Support the Troops.
March 7, 2010, Bentley's Saloon hosted a "CABIN FEVER RELIEVER" for RIDIN' STEEL. Nearly 30 different bike organizers attended along with members from MMPAC and UBM. Steve Marois with RIDIN' STEEL successfully coordinated the event with Bentley's Saloon. Steve has wrote us, "RIDIN' STEEL would like to thank all the Run Organizers and the supporters of RIDIN' STEEL for their part in making this day a huge success. A special note of appreciation goes out to L-A HARLEY, BIG MOOSE HARLEY , NORTH COUNTRY HARLEY DAVIDSON and Matt Young & Dave Williams for designing, painting and donating the RIDIN' STEEL HOGGIE TANK. We would also like to say a BIG THANK YOU to BENTLEYS SALOON for their cooperation in allowing RIDIN' STEEL to host this special event. A lot of new connections and relationships were made on Sunday March 7th insuring the future success of RIDIN' STEEL."

September 14, 2009, we were privileged to have Dave Perewitz, a self-taught designer, mechanic, painter, and fabricator of custom bikes. Dave brought several of his bikes including NASCAR driver's Tony Stewart's. He has built bikes for wrestler Hulk Hogan, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, NFL Player Rubin Brown, NASCAR'S Greg Zippadelli, Kyle Petty & Ray Everham. His custom bikes have been featured on Easyrider, Hot Rod Bikes, American Rider, American Chopper and Barnett amongst many others and television programs to include the Discovery Channel Great Biker Build-Off series, Speed Channel Gibson and Aersomith Bikes, Travel Channel programs, etc. Dave spent the day signing posters and copies of his book "Chopper Master and King of Flames" and posing for pictures. What a guy! We loved having him at the saloon and hope he comes back with more of his custom bikes.
On September 13, 2009, our loyal annual Haddock 100 riders joined us at the saloon to raise money for Waban. Waban is a non-profit corporation organized to develop and operate programs which promote the general welfare and education of children and adults with developmental or other disabilities. Even though it was a rainy day, we still raised hundreds of dollars. Pictured at left Bentley's Saloon's employee Lisa Rivard with Waban friends.
August 30, 2009, we were fortunate to have the Shadley Brothers at Bentley's. The brothers, Mark & Paul, are well known for their outstanding knowledge in designing, fabricating, and custom painting services. Their company has won countless shows and awards. Their "one-off" bikes have been featured on the covers of many motorcycle magazines since they began offering their talents to the public. Their latest project can be seen on the cover of the 2009 "Drag Specialties Fat Book." Mark & Paul enjoy riding at various rallies and events around the country. A saloon patron brought their frame & engine to the saloon to leave with the Shadley Bros. We look forward to seeing their new creation!! The frame can be seen, along with the custom bikes Mark & Paul brought to Bentley's by clicking here.
